North Park Baptist Church had its beginning in the minds and hearts of a group of people who met in the home of Dr. Chapmond Davis in North Richland Hills, TX in early November, 1970. Dr. Davis was appointed a state missionary for the Baptist Missionary Association of Texas, who sponsored the land purchase and the erection of the first building. A total of seventeen people were present for that meeting. The YMCA on Davis Boulevard in North Richland Hills was secured for later meetings. This facility was used until property at the present location was secured, and a building was erected. The first services were held in this building in early September, 1972. At the first service, a record attendance of 150 was recorded. Dr. Davis acted as Missionary Pastor until April 1973, when he resigned to go to Israel as a Foreign Missionary. Dr. Curtis Coleman became the Pastor and remained until August, 1975. From August 1975 until September 1977, Rev. Wayne Pope led the new Church. From 1977 until May 1988 Dr. Bob Lane served as Pastor. At that time, Dr. Gene Edwards became the Senior Pastor and continues to lead the church today. Rev. Shawn Edwards was elected as Co-Pastor in January 2006 and serves as Executive Pastor and will succeed Dr. Edwards as Senior Pastor at a time yet to be determined.
The North Park family decided, with a unanimous vote, to affilitate with the Baptist General Convention of Texas and the Southern Baptist Convention in 1989. The North Park Baptist Church found it necessary to
affiliate with the Southern Baptist of Texas Convention (SBTC) in January of 2003 and are proud to be a supporting partner.
The church has grown from the original three families to over 1,300 members. The Church is located on 4 acres of choice property with an estimated value of $1.8 million dollars. North Park Ministries constitutes not
only worship, but also includes a Child Care Center, Academy, and other ministries to youth, children, World-wide Missions. With an annual budget of over one million dollars. North Park has grown numerically,
spirituality, and in Mission Outreach Ministry. As the Church has grown, the average attendance has now reached over 300, with steady increase in the number of people who worship with us each Lord's Day.
The North Park Family anticipates a great period of service to our Lord Jesus Christ by serving those in this community with the glorious gospel of Christ and its transforming power, until He shall return to receive
us unto Himself.
